Privacy Policy

Short version: you can practice without giving us anything. If you create an account we keep your email address, your test attempts and, only if you add them, a display name and your ACT goals. Nothing else. We do not sell data or show ads. We measure visits with Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics, described below.
Practicing without an account
Your answers, timers and results are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device so you can resume tests and see your history. Your answers and essays do not leave your device. Clearing your browser data removes them.
If you create an account
- Email address and password, to sign you in and to send confirmation and password reset links. Passwords are stored only as a hash by our sign-in provider, never in readable form. We do not ask for your birth date, school or phone number.
- Profile details you choose to add: a display name, a target ACT score and your test date, used only to greet you and show a countdown on your account page. You can change or clear them there at any time, and deleting your saved data clears them too.
- Test attempts: answers, time spent, scores and the tests you took, so your results follow you between devices.
Account data is stored with our database provider, Supabase, and protected so that each account can read only its own results. Results you saved in this browser before signing in are added to your account when you sign in.
AI feedback on Writing essays
If you ask for AI feedback on a practice essay, the essay text and the writing prompt are sent to Moonshot AI, whose Kimi model scores the essay against our rubric and writes feedback. Your name, email address and account details are not sent, and the essay is processed under Moonshot AI's API terms and privacy policy. We keep the scores and feedback with your account (not a separate copy of the essay) and limit how many essays can be scored each day. AI feedback is optional: you can always self-assess with the rubric instead, and it requires an account.
Submission notices
When you finish a test or practice set, or check an answer in practice by question, your browser sends a short notice to ACT Test Now so we can see how the site is used. It says which test, topic or question it was, the scores and how long it took, plus which visit this is on your device (a count your browser keeps, such as "4th visit") and how many tests and questions you have done before. If you are signed in, it also includes the email address of your account, so we can see who is practicing; otherwise it is anonymous. Our server adds the country your request came from, as reported by our host Vercel, and whether the device looked like a phone. When you get AI feedback on an essay, we receive a similar notice with the prompt, the score, the word count and the email address the report is sent to, if there is one. These notices go to a private Telegram group read only by the ACT Test Now team, through the Telegram Bot service, and we do not store them. They never contain your name, answers, essay text or IP address.
Visit statistics
To see which pages are useful and where visitors come from, we use two analytics services. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies to count visits and pages viewed, and receives your browser's IP address, which Google uses to estimate your country and city. Google signals and ad personalization are switched off, so this data is not used for advertising. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without storing your IP address. Neither service receives your answers, scores, essays or account details. You can block or clear Google's cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on, without affecting practice.
Help and support chat
If you message us through the Help & Support chat, your messages, any files you attach, the page you were on, your device type, browser and country and, if you are signed in or give one, your email address are stored with our database provider and passed to our team through a private Telegram group so we can reply. The chat remembers your conversation with a cookie on this site. Don't share passwords or other sensitive details in the chat.
Students under 18
ACT Test Now is meant for students preparing for the ACT, typically aged 15 to 18. You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live, ask a parent or guardian before creating one. Practicing without an account needs no personal information at all.
Third parties
- Supabase (database, sign-in and password reset emails), only if you create an account.
- Google, only if you choose Continue with Google. Google then tells us your email address so we can sign you in.
- Vercel, which hosts the site, keeps standard server logs and provides cookieless Web Analytics.
- Google Analytics, which counts visits and pages viewed using cookies.
- Telegram, which carries the submission notices and support chat messages described above to our team, including your account's email address if you are signed in.
- Moonshot AI (Kimi), only for essays you choose to send for AI feedback.
Your choices
You can sign out, or permanently delete all saved attempts and essay feedback, from the account page. To have your sign-in record removed as well, or for anything else, contact us at hello@acttestnow.com.
